Young Enterprise: ‘If you put your mind to something, you can overcome and achieve anything’

Young Enterprise recently hosted an inspiring event in Cardiff, bringing together teams of young people from schools and colleges across Wales to compete in their Company and Team Programme Final. The event, hosted by Cardiff University, showcased the creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of Wales’ youth.
The event featured teams competing for awards in various categories, including Creativity, Innovation, Sustainability, Technology, Teamwork, and Welsh Culture. These accolades recognize the achievements of young entrepreneurs who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and ingenuity in their projects.
One of the major highlights of the event was the announcement of Pack-a-Pren from Olchfa School in Swansea as the Welsh Company of the Year 2025. Supported by Norgine, a specialist pharmaceutical company, the team impressed the judges with their Build Your Own Stadium kits, designed for football and model-building enthusiasts. The kits, endorsed by Swansea FC, aim to “give people young and old the satisfaction from the accomplishment of bringing their sports memorabilia to life.” Pack-a-Pren also received the Technology award, presented by Howard Thompson from UK Steel Enterprise.
Another notable winner was Slate 24 from Ysgol Penmaes in Brecon, who claimed the Sustainability award. Reflecting on their achievement, the team stated: “We like to think that we have inspired other young people with additional learning needs to achieve things they thought they couldn’t. If you put your mind to something, you can overcome and achieve anything you want to.”
The Overall Winner of the Welsh Team Programme award was Hapus@TLZ from Coleg Gwent. Comprising students with additional learning needs, the team demonstrated resilience and creativity by making bags from repurposed fabrics and clothes, preventing waste and promoting sustainability. The team won three awards: Best Financially Managed, Best Team Programme, and the Inspire Award.
Both Pack-a-Pren and Hapus@TLZ will now represent Wales at the UK Company of the Year final in Manchester on June 4th. Pack-a-Pren will compete with other UK finalists for the prestigious title of UK COTY 2025, with the possibility of advancing to the European Final in Athens in July. Meanwhile, Hapus@TLZ will vie for the National Inspire Award against other regional winners.
The Young Enterprise event not only celebrated entrepreneurial talent but also emphasized the importance of fostering innovation and leadership skills among young people. The success of these teams serves as an inspiration for future business leaders in Wales, reflecting the dedication and creativity that drive positive change in the community.
