Welsh Legal Sector leaders recognised for driving growth, innovation and social impact

The organisations and individuals helping to shape the future of legal services in Wales have been recognised at the Legal News Wales Awards 2026, highlighting the increasingly important role the profession plays in supporting businesses, communities and economic growth across the nation.

Held at Cardiff’s historic Coal Exchange Hotel, the sold-out event brought together more than 300 representatives from law firms, barristers’ chambers, in-house legal teams, regulators, legal technology providers, professional services organisations and businesses from across Wales.  

Now in their second year, the Legal News Wales Awards have quickly become a showcase for excellence in the business of law, recognising the organisations and individuals helping to strengthen legal services, invest in people, embrace innovation and create positive impact across Welsh communities.

The awards offer a unique snapshot of a sector that continues to evolve far beyond its traditional role. While legal expertise remains at its heart, this year’s finalists demonstrated how legal organisations are increasingly acting as employers, innovators, community leaders and strategic partners to businesses navigating an increasingly complex operating environment.

Speaking at the event, Legal News Wales Founder and Editor Emma Waddingham said the awards have become a reflection of the people and organisations driving progress across the profession.

“The Legal News Wales Awards have become much more than an awards ceremony. They are creating a record of the people, teams and organisations shaping the legal profession in Wales right now.

“The organisations and individuals recognised this evening are helping to shape the future of legal services in Wales. They are strengthening businesses, supporting communities, investing in people and driving positive change across the profession.”  

Throughout the judging process, themes of leadership, collaboration and innovation emerged consistently across submissions. Judges highlighted the role finalists are playing in developing workplace cultures, improving client outcomes, embracing technology, widening access to justice, supporting employee wellbeing and creating opportunities for future generations entering the profession.  

These themes reflect wider challenges and opportunities facing businesses across Wales. As organisations adapt to changing workforce expectations, technological advancements and increasing regulatory demands, the legal sector is increasingly demonstrating how strong leadership, innovation and investment in people can drive sustainable growth.

This year’s winners reflected those priorities.

Browne Jacobson secured the Business Growth Award in the large organisation category, while Mooneerams Solicitors was recognised for business growth among firms employing up to 50 people. JCP Solicitors received recognition for both its Future Lawyers Initiative and Marketing Initiative, highlighting the importance of attracting, developing and retaining talent. Meanwhile, NWSSP Legal & Risk Services was recognised for its work in transforming legal service delivery, and Agri Advisor took home the Client Experience Award for its commitment to delivering exceptional service.  

Leadership also featured prominently throughout the evening. Neil Walker, Chief Executive of Redkite Solicitors, received the Leadership Award, while Kayleigh Jefferies of 30 Park Place was recognised with the Legal Sector Changemaker Award for her contribution to driving positive change within the profession. Rhian Davies of Blake Morgan received the Rising Star Award, recognising emerging talent and future leadership within the sector.  

A particularly significant moment of the evening was the presentation of the Legal Hero Wales Award to Michael Imperato, Consultant Solicitor at Watkins & Gunn.

Widely regarded as one of Wales’ leading claimant public law and human rights lawyers, Imperato has spent more than three decades representing individuals, families and communities in some of the most significant public law cases affecting Wales, including work connected to the Infected Blood Inquiry. His career has been characterised by a commitment to accountability, access to justice and ensuring that the voices of those facing significant challenges are heard.  

The award also recognised his wider contribution to mentoring future generations of lawyers, supporting community organisations and championing access to justice throughout his career. Judges described his impact as extending far beyond legal achievements, highlighting the communities he has helped protect and the lives he has changed through his work.

The evening also featured keynote addresses from Richard Orpin, Chief Executive of the Legal Services Board, and Mark Evans, President of The Law Society of England and Wales, underlining the growing profile and influence of the Welsh legal sector on a national stage.
