Video game publisher Ubisoft has partnered with Cardiff-based creative technology studio Sugar Creative to develop two large-scale, geo-located immersive XR experiences in New York City and Boston, timed to launch alongside America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

The mobile-based experiences, titled Echoes of Revolution, will draw on the worlds of Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed Rogue to immerse visitors in key moments of the American Revolution.

Users will explore historically significant streets and landmarks while mixed-reality storytelling layers game visuals, characters and narratives onto the real world.

“Ubisoft is excited about using the worlds of Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed Rogue to bring key moments of the American Revolution to life for visitors exploring the streets of Boston and New York City,” said Amy Jenkins-Le Guerroué, Strategic Alliances Director at Ubisoft.

The projects have received backing from Creative Wales and Media Cymru through UK Research and Innovation’s Strength in Places Fund, supporting Sugar Creative’s R&D work in Wales.

Jason Veal, Managing Director of Sugar Creative, said:  “Being able to deliver a project of this ambition from Wales is hugely important to us.

“The support from Creative Wales and Media Cymru has given Sugar Creative the platform to innovate, collaborate with world-class partners, and show how Welsh-led creative technology can drive cultural experiences at an international level.

“We’re proud to bring a Welsh voice to a project of this scale.”

Further details on Echoes of Revolution are expected to be released in 2026.
