Welsh towns are set to benefit from new UK Government investment aimed at revitalising high streets, supporting local businesses and restoring pride in communities.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer will today announce the Pride in Place programme, described as an unprecedented initiative with record funding that will give local people a say in how money is spent in their areas.
“This is about choosing a future where communities can come together, rather than be divided, and where renewal is chosen over decline,” the Prime Minister said. “The UK Government is delivering lasting change working people will feel all over Wales.”
The programme is expected to support more than 330 communities across the UK. In Wales, funding will complement existing Welsh Government schemes such as the Transforming Towns fund, Tidy Towns and Placemaking initiatives.
Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens said: “All around Wales there are communities which will benefit from the Pride in Place programme.
“This investment will deliver real change for local people, giving them a say in how funding is spent on improving the things that matter to them.”
The government said the initiative will allow communities to focus investment on what matters most to them – from breathing new life into high streets and pubs to creating new spaces for young people.
Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government Steve Reed added: “When people step out of their front doors, they should be proud of where they live. Where they know their communities are struggling, we want to invest and empower them to make changes.
“Yes, communities have been stretched – but they haven’t given up. They’re working hard to make things better, and we’re backing them.”
