Wales is set to benefit from a wave of US-backed projects spotlighted during the US President Donald Trump’s State Visit to the UK, as part of £33 billion in new technology investment flowing through the UK-US Tech Partnership.

The investment includes nearly £12 billion from Vantage Data Centres, which is developing one of Europe’s largest data centre campuses in Newport. The project is expected to create 11,500 jobs and marks one of the biggest single inward investments ever seen in Wales.

Vantage’s expansion adds to its growing Welsh footprint, with existing operations near Cardiff, plans for a 10-centre complex on the former Ford site in Bridgend, and a newly approved development at Bro Tathan business park in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The announcements were made alongside the launch of the UK-US Tech Prosperity Deal, which aims to accelerate growth in frontier technologies including artificial intelligence, quantum, and nuclear.

American tech giants such as Microsoft, NVIDIA, Google, OpenAI, and CoreWeave are collectively committing £31 billion to strengthen the UK’s AI infrastructure, from advanced computing chips to next-generation data centres.

Together, these investments build on the £44 billion already channelled into the UK’s AI and tech sector under the current government, reinforcing Wales’ role in global digital innovation and creating thousands of highly skilled jobs.

Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle said: “These commitments send a clear signal that Wales is at the forefront of innovation in digital infrastructure.

“Working closely with the US is best for Britain — it boosts growth and delivers jobs across the country.

“It’s clear our Plan for Change is working—and that Wales remains a prime destination for global investment.”

The wider UK-US investment total, announced during the State Visit, has surpassed £150 billion across strategic sectors such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and digital technology.

Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens said: “The UK Government has made economic growth our key mission and this huge US investment in Wales delivers fantastic benefits for working people across the country.

“Wales is open for business and this vote of confidence from firms in key sectors like clean energy, advanced manufacturing and defence will boost jobs and growth in our industries of the future.”
