Vernon Everitt, chair of TFW (Transport for Wales), has been awarded a CBE in the New Year’s Honours List in recognition of his contribution to public transport.
The honour comes amid a period of significant change for the transport sector in Wales, with major investment and reform under way.
The Welsh Government is investing £800m in new rolling stock for the Wales and Borders rail network, a programme designed to improve reliability, capacity and passenger experience.
Alongside rail investment, forthcoming legislation is set to reshape bus services across the country.
The proposed Bus Services Bill will introduce a single, integrated bus network for Wales, with unified timetables and ticketing aimed at making public transport easier to use and more accessible for passengers.
TFW is also due to publish a new, industry-led vision for rail early in the new year, outlining long-term priorities for the network.
Everitt took up the role of chair in July 2025, bringing experience from senior leadership positions in public transport in Greater Manchester and London.
His career has included overseeing customer service improvements and initiatives to increase passenger numbers across major urban transport systems.
Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales Ken Skates said: “I am pleased to congratulate to Vernon on this well-deserved recognition for his exceptional contribution, pragmatism and innovation in public transport.
“I was delighted with his appointment as Chair of Transport for Wales and look forward to drawing on his leadership, wisdom and experience as we transform public transport in Wales in 2026.”
