Independent insurance, risk, wealth management and insurtech firm Thomas Carroll has made a significant addition to its team, welcoming five experienced executives across its offices in Caerphilly, Swansea and Hereford.

The appointments reinforce the group’s commitment to recruiting top industry talent as it continues to expand its presence and services across Wales and the wider region.

In Hereford, Tegan McKernon has joined the Thomas Carroll team following a seven-year tenure at Marsh, as well as a period at Pen Underwriting. Commenting on her move, she said:

“The fact that Thomas Carroll is an employee-owned business was a great attraction for me. It makes you feel like you’re all in it together. The independence of the company means that it’s really agile, and you get decisions made quickly and easily.”

In Swansea, Nick Owen has returned to the company as an associate risk advisor after a year with Lloyd and Whyte. Speaking about his decision, he said:

“I am so delighted to be back at Thomas Carroll. It really is a great place to work. The senior management are so approachable, all of my colleagues are on the same page and it is really refreshing. I’m really excited to be part of it.”

Three new faces have also joined the firm’s Caerphilly headquarters. Jamie Chambers brings experience from Marsh and Towergate, while Alisha Edwards previously worked at bpw Insurance Services and Lloyd and Whyte. Pension specialist Fiona Terry has been appointed as a senior consultant in the Employee Benefits team, after over a decade with Howden.

Jamie Chambers noted the firm’s strong reputation in the region: “Being born and bred in south Wales you are always aware of the Thomas Carroll brand and its reputation for quality and expertise. It’s an aspirational company to work for and its values and ethos aligned with mine, so it was a no brainer to join.”

Alisha Edwards, who was recently named President of the Cardiff branch of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), echoed this sentiment: “Thomas Carroll represents the pinnacle of insurance broking in south Wales – independent, highly respected, and aligned with my own personal values. It’s always been my ambition to work here.

“Now, with the company being employee-owned, that also had an impact on my decision to join. There is a genuine culture of togetherness here, where relationships matter and everything we do is approached with a personal touch. It’s a great team to work for.”

Fiona Terry, with over two decades of financial services experience, expressed enthusiasm about her future with the company: “I joined Thomas Carroll because of its reputation as a truly client-focused business. I was also attracted by its personalised approach to both its customers and its employees and, so far, the experience has been all that I could have wished for. The future is looking very bright.”

Gareth Cotty, Group Chief Commercial Officer at Thomas Carroll, welcomed the new hires, saying: “The wealth of experience that we have gained from taking on these five executives is second to none. We are so proud that we have been able to attract them to Thomas Carroll from some of the UK’s leading brokers.

“I believe it is testament to the great reputation and commitment to the independence of Thomas Carroll Group that we are able to entice employees of this calibre to join us. I am looking forward to seeing them grow with us and watching their careers go from strength to strength.”
