Traffic management will be introduced on the Menai Suspension Bridge later this month as part of essential works to permanently fix crossbeams, with short-term disruption expected for businesses and commuters.

The Menai Suspension Bridge is a critical transport link between Anglesey and the Welsh mainland.

A tidal flow system will be in operation from 19 February for approximately eight days, allowing traffic to move in one direction at a time during daytime hours.

Between 7am and 1pm, vehicles will be able to cross from Anglesey to the mainland, while from 1pm to 7pm traffic will flow in the opposite direction. Overnight, from 7pm to 7am, normal traffic signals will remain in place.

The measures form part of a revised Phase 2 programme, under which traffic management will be required only for short periods to complete key elements of the work.

Enforcement of the existing 7.5-tonne weight limit will remain in place throughout the works to ensure the bridge can continue to operate safely.

The Welsh Government said in a statement: “We thank residents, commuters and businesses for their continued patience and co-operation.”
