Motorists and businesses in north-east Wales are being advised to plan ahead as essential maintenance work gets under way on a section of the A55 next month.

Roadworks will take place between junction 34 (Ewloe) and junction 35 (Dobshill) on the eastbound carriageway for four weeks from 22 February, with lane closures and overnight diversions in place.

Under the plans, a single lane closure will operate on weekdays between 06:00 and 20:00, while full closures will be limited to overnight on weekdays from 20:00 to 06:00 and over weekends from Friday 20:00 until Monday 06:00.

During closures, traffic will be diverted via the A494, A5117 and A41, rejoining the A55 at junction 39. All diversions will be signposted in advance.

The scheme will involve removing worn-out surfacing, repairing the underlying concrete slabs, replacing gulleys and manholes and resurfacing the carriageway.

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, said: “Maintaining our roads is essential to keeping Wales moving, and the A55 is a vital artery for communities and businesses across the region.

“I understand that roadworks can be frustrating, and I want to thank drivers in advance for their patience while this important work takes place.

“The improvements we are making will help extend the life of this road for years to come.

“This investment reflects our commitment to maintain Wales’s infrastructure; with every pound we put in helping to protect road users, reduce vehicle damage, and support the local economy.”
