Swiss electronics manufacturer Cicor Group is set to significantly expand its production operations in Newport after securing a major long-term supply agreement with a global aerospace and defence technology company.

The deal, which runs for an initial five years, will see a substantial share of new manufacturing work transferred to Cicor’s facility in Rogerstone.

The contract is expected to boost the group’s turnover by a mid-range double-digit million-pound amount and further cement its position within Europe’s aerospace and defence supply chain.

As part of the expansion, the proportion of aerospace-related work at the Newport site will increase from 5% of total output to around 25%, creating new skilled jobs in the first phase and laying the groundwork for further recruitment as the programme scales.

The announcement comes as Wales prepares to host its international Investment Summit at ICC Wales. Rebecca Evans, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, met Cicor representatives during the DSEI UK defence and security event in London in September.

Evans described the investment as a strong endorsement of Wales’ capabilities in advanced manufacturing. “Cicor’s expansion in Newport is exactly the sort of inward investment we are looking to attract at our international Investment Summit at the ICC Wales next week,” she said.

“Wales is a dynamic and future-focused nation and we are committed to working with businesses to create the right conditions and opportunity for growth, investment and job creation.

“We boast world-class capabilities in the defence and aerospace sectors and Cicor’s expansion will provide further well-paid jobs for skilled professionals in this high-tech industry.”

Cicor, which provides high-reliability electronic components and systems, has been steadily growing its UK presence, with the Newport site now set to become a key production hub for its aerospace and defence portfolio.

Lee Harrhy, Head of Operations at Cicor in Newport, said the new agreement marks a step-change in the site’s role within the wider group.

“This investment brings with it new technology and new jobs, increasing the aerospace and defence manufacturing operation here at Newport. It also strengthens Cicor’s position as a leading pan-European aerospace and defence manufacturer for the sector,” he said.
