Swansea secures national accreditation for business crime reduction efforts

Swansea’s approach to tackling business crime has been recognised once again at a national level, as Swansea Against Business Crime (SABC) secures the National Standards Accreditation for a second time.

The accreditation, awarded by the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships, recognises excellence in preventing business crime and creating safer environments for communities.

It assesses all aspects of a Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), including intelligence sharing, communication systems, partnership working and targeted project delivery.

SABC operates within the framework of Swansea BID, which focuses on boosting the economic performance of the city centre.

The BID supports initiatives designed to increase footfall, enhance the environment and ensure Swansea remains a safe destination for businesses and visitors.

“It reflects the ongoing commitment, collaboration and dedication of everyone involved in keeping Swansea safe, welcoming and thriving.”

Recent data points to measurable improvements in the city centre. Shop theft has fallen by 14.5% year on year, while incidents of anti-social behaviour have dropped by 6.2%.

Positive outcomes for reported crimes have also increased, with rates reaching 63% for shop theft and 87% for anti-social behaviour as of December.

These results have been supported by a range of initiatives delivered through the partnership, including a City Centre Ranger scheme, a digital radio network, the SentrySIS crime reporting system, a 24/7 business crime line, and coordinated taxi and night marshal services to support the evening economy.

The accreditation scheme is overseen by the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships, which sets standards for BCRPs across the UK.
