Swansea City report record £21.56m loss for 2024/25 season

Swansea City have reported a club record loss of £21.56 million in their accounts for the 2024/25 season.

The club reported a loss of £14.39 million for the 2023/24 season, while their most recent reporting breaks their record loss by £5.3 million.

Remarkably, Swansea have not recorded a profit since 2020, with their revenue significantly decreasing year on year.

Following relegation to the Championship in 2018, turnover has plummeted from £126.8m that year to £22.3m for last season.

Turnover has increased from last season, albeit only £710,000 from the previous season.

Swansea did turn a profit while in the Premier League, with eight-figure profits peaking at £15.4m for the year ending 2013.

Most concerning is Swansea’s wage-to-turnover ratio, with stands at 130%, with their wage bill climbing to £29 million.

That contributed to an increase in operational costs from £47m to £51.3m.

Profit on player trading for the year was £8.1m, down from £10.5m for the prior period, including the sales of players such as Matt Grimes to Coventry City and Nathan Wood to Southampton.

“The club’s ownership group has invested £21m into the club by way of equity share issue in the 2024-25 season,” the club said in a statement upon publishing their accounts.

“Further investment has been made into the club in the current season.”
