Swansea Building Society has strengthened its commitment to Welsh sport and community development by becoming an Official Partner of Glamorgan County Cricket Club for the 2025 season. The partnership, which unites two of Wales’ most established institutions, will see the Society significantly raise its profile in the sporting arena while championing grassroots cricket and diversity initiatives.

As part of the agreement, the Main Pavilion Lounge at Sophia Gardens – a central hub for hospitality, business events, and cricket fans – will be renamed the Swansea Building Society Lounge. The venue is a popular gathering point for supporters on matchdays and functions as a key conference and events space throughout the year.

The deal also includes support for the Swansea Building Society Cohesion Cup, an initiative aimed at engaging cricketers from diverse communities and promoting inclusion within the sport. The Cup reflects both organisations’ shared vision for widening participation and fostering unity through sport.

Richard Miles, Head of Savings & Marketing at Swansea Building Society, said: “We’re absolutely delighted – Glamorgan is such an iconic institution across South Wales, and we wanted to be part of its continued development.

“Last year, when the team won the Metro Bank Cup, we saw how strong the squad is becoming. Under the leadership of CEO Dan Cherry, along with Ed and the senior management team, Glamorgan is clearly on an upward trajectory.

“We see a natural alignment between their ambitions and our own as an organisation. We’re growing too – opening branches, not closing them – and we believe this will be a fantastic partnership moving forward.”

Ed Rice, Head of Commercial at Glamorgan Cricket, also welcomed the renewed collaboration saying: “The continued support of Swansea Building Society is fantastic news for the club. Glamorgan is the only first-class county in Wales, so we’re proud to be working with a Welsh business that shares our community values.

“After beginning our collaboration last year, we’re thrilled to formally welcome Swansea Building Society into our family of partners, and we’re excited about the positive impact this can deliver both on and off the field.”

The partnership underscores Swansea Building Society’s growing presence in Wales’ sports and entertainment sectors. It follows the Society’s recent acquisition of naming rights for the Swansea Building Society Arena, reinforcing its investment in the region’s cultural and economic development.

In addition to this, the Society continues its sponsorship of Swansea City FC and Swansea RFC, while supporting a range of charitable causes. Looking ahead to 2025, Prostate Cymru has been named the Society’s official charity partner.

Founded in 1923, Swansea Building Society has been a cornerstone of South Wales’ financial services sector for over a century. Known for its personalised and community-focused approach, the Society remains deeply committed to reinvesting in the areas it serves – not just financially, but socially and culturally.

This latest partnership with Glamorgan Cricket is another demonstration of that mission, further highlighting the Society’s dedication to supporting Welsh talent, heritage, and community wellbeing.
