Swansea Building Society completes £25,000 charity fund with YMCA donation

Swansea Building Society has completed a £25,000 anniversary charity fund with a final £3,000 donation to YMCA Cardiff, supporting young people and communities across the Welsh capital.

The donation marks the final allocation from the fund, which was established to celebrate Chief Executive Alun Williams’ 25 years at the helm. A total of £20,000 has previously been donated to Faith in Families, with a further £2,000 going to Llys Nini.

YMCA Cardiff has supported communities in the capital for more than 170 years, providing accommodation and support for young people facing homelessness alongside wellbeing, education, training and community programmes.

The anniversary fund was created after Williams became the longest-serving chief executive of a UK building society.

The initiative adds to Swansea Building Society’s wider programme of community support, including its partnership with Prostate Cymru as its official charity partner for 2026.

Alun Williams, Chief Executive of Swansea Building Society, said: “When we established this £25,000 fund, we wanted it to celebrate not just my 25 years with the Society, but the values that have always been at the heart of Swansea Building Society – supporting the communities we serve and helping organisations that make a genuine difference to people’s lives.

“YMCA Cardiff has an outstanding reputation for providing practical support, opportunities and hope to people facing difficult circumstances. The work it carries out every day transforms lives, and we are delighted to be able to support the charity through this final donation from the anniversary fund.

“It has been a privilege to see this fund benefit three outstanding charities, each making an incredible contribution in very different ways, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped make these donations possible.”
