St Brides Spa Hotel in Saundersfoot has completed a 16-week renovation project, unveiling 35 new bedrooms, upgraded leisure facilities, and what operators are calling one of the most scenic spa experiences in Wales.

The work, carried out by the Celtic Collection on behalf of owners the Port of Milford Haven, began in February and was originally planned as a 10-week closure. But unexpected challenges extended the project to four months.

“It’s been the most exciting year down here at St Brides,” said Matt Barnby, regional operations director for Celtic Collection. “Originally a 10 week closure was planned and it didn’t quite go to plan. Came across some challenges and turned out to be a 16 week closure in the end but it was well worth it.”

The investment has delivered 35 bespoke bedrooms, all now fitted with air conditioning, alongside a refurbished restaurant and bar. The spa has been completely redesigned with a new Himalayan salt room with infrared, heated beds in the relaxation area, and a terrace featuring a new outdoor sauna and Jacuzzi.

“Our supplier tells me that it has the best view of any sauna he’s ever installed. And they’ve installed lots,” Barnby said.

He added: “Our owners, the Port of Milford Haven, that have supported us with the funds to allow us to make these changes and reimagine the hotel. It’s obviously a prime location and with that comes a great deal of expectations.”

According to Barnby, the brief was clear from the outset. “They wanted it to be the best spa hotel in Wales, and they’ve really given us the opportunity to do that. Of course, there’s a lot more to it than the facilities. The team here have been fantastic. They’ve really embraced that in the service that they’ve delivered, that level of hospitality that they’ve delivered. They’re really into the personal touches for all our guests.”

Since reopening, the hotel has seen strong demand. “We’d been closed for 16 weeks, but we’ve certainly seen that feedback improve and grow. And we’re now in a really good position, receiving some incredible feedback, with lots of guests rebooking before they leave, keen to come back and bring their friends and tell their families and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.

Barnby added that local engagement has also been a priority. “We want people to come back and enjoy those facilities as well as the locals as well. We’ve probably seen our local trade pick up since we’ve reopened as well, which is key to us. We want to be part of the community in the local area. Some of our initiatives such as ‘Hello Neighbour’, where we provide locals with discount in some of our outlets has really supported that along with the refresh of all the facilities.”
