Rugby legend raises over £20,000 for Wales’ leading prostate health charity

A star-studded charity evening at Old Deer Park, the home of London Welsh RFC, has raised over £20,000 for Prostate Cymru.

Hosted by Prostate Cymru Ambassador, Lyn Jones, “An Evening with Friends” brought together sporting icons and supporters to raise vital funds for the fight against prostate cancer.

The event featured a high-profile Q&A session with Prostate Cymru Ambassador Ieuan Evans MBE and Simon Jones, with the evening’s proceedings led by renowned broadcaster John Inverdale.

The generosity of the attendees was evident throughout the night, with a spirited auction alone generating nearly £10,000 to support the charity’s work across Wales.

Lyn Jones has become a pivotal figure for Prostate Cymru, using his platform as an Ambassador to break the stigma surrounding men’s health.

By sharing his own personal diagnosis and recovery journey, Lyn has inspired countless men to check their risk.

His commitment to the cause recently saw him complete the “Big Trek” to Namibia, a gruelling physical challenge that mirrored his dedication to raising awareness for the 1 in 8 men in Wales affected by the disease.

“The incredible total raised at Old Deer Park is a testament to the strength of our community and the impact of our Ambassadors,” said Tina Tew, Chief Executive of Prostate Cymru.

“Raising over £20,000 in one evening is a phenomenal achievement.

“These funds are essential in allowing us to continue our mission of improving prostate health in Wales, from funding research and innovation, to supporting our local friendship groups and raising awareness across the country.

“We are so grateful to Lyn, Ieuan, and everyone who made the night a success.”

As Prostate Cymru receives no government funding, the success of events like this ensures the charity can continue providing life-saving information and support to men and their families across Wales dealing with prostate cancer.
