PLUG Charging has started installing lamp column electric vehicle chargers across the Welsh capital this week.

The chargers are integrated into lampposts by the Cardiff-based firm and are installed facing the road, meaning cables will not create a trip hazard for pedestrians.

The installation programme creates more EV charging infrastructure, with residents without access to off street parking benefitting from the rollout.

The chargers can be accessed via the PLUG Charging UK & Ireland app, which allows users to locate nearby chargers, check availability and start a charge.

Jarrad Morris, Founder and CEO of PLUG  Charging, wrote on LinkedIn: “[This is a] proud moment for us at PLUG Charging seeing this go live with Cardiff Council.

“As a Cardiff-based company, this rollout means a lot. It’s the result of around 15 months of hard work behind the scenes – planning, collaboration, and problem-solving – to make on-street charging a reality for the city.”

Morris added: “These lamp column chargers are designed with residents in mind, especially those without access to off-street parking.

“By integrating directly into existing infrastructure, we’re helping make EV charging more accessible without adding clutter to pavements.

“Great to be working with Cardiff Council on a project that supports cleaner air, lower carbon emissions, and a more sustainable future for the city we’re proud to call home and even prouder that a % of the profit goes back to community causes in Cardiff.

“On to the next!”
