The health and wellbeing estate, Parc Dewi Sant, is nearing capacity after attracting 60 new organisations in two years, with attention now turning to the development of its two remaining buildings.

The 38-acre site is staking a claim to be one of Wales’ most significant campuses which focus on health.

80 occupiers are hosted by the site which provide services such as rehabilitation services, nursing education, specialist autism provision, charities, and more.

The estate has a history of healthcare, originally developed as a county asylum in the 19th century and later used for NHS mental health services until 2001, it is now being reinvented as a modern campus that focuses on prevention, education and community.

There was high demand for the main buildings within Parc Dewi Sant, majority of which have now been occupied.

Two more buildings remain which will be at the forefront of the site’s next phase of development, as both require restoration.

Owners of the site have revealed that they are in discussions regarding repurposing the two buildings for additional healthcare.

They aim to partner with organisations that will maximise the potential of the building before proceeding with the development.

Services that are being considered to occupy the two remaining buildings will add to the diverse healthcare and wellbeing network that already exists on the site.

Nursing care provision, and mental health step-down accommodation have also been considered.

Organisations within the estate also provide services that focus on community health such as the Parent and Infant Feeding Group, alongside specialist facilities such as Hafen Derwen and the Cwm Seren mental health unit.

With all of its organisations, Parc Dewi Sant reaches a catchment of nearly 200,000 people around Carmarthenshire .

Director of the Business Park, Mark Andrews, said: “It has been a privilege to become custodians of such a historic and important estate in the heart of Carmarthen.

“From the outset we believed the site had enormous potential and it is incredibly rewarding to see such a vibrant community of organisations now operating here.

“To have 80 occupiers on site, including 60 who have joined us in the past two years, is a fantastic milestone and a real testament to the vision for Parc Dewi Sant.

“As the main buildings reach capacity, our focus now turns to the remaining buildings and how they can be brought back into productive use.

“We would welcome conversations with organisations that can bring complementary services and ideas to the site and help us continue building a campus that supports health, wellbeing and community life across Carmarthenshire.”

Meddygfa Parc is a new NHS GP surgery on the campus, having relocated from the town centre last month.

Jodi Bateman from the surgery said: “We feel incredibly fortunate to have moved to the beautiful surroundings of Parc Dewi Sant. This exciting new chapter allows us to continue providing high-quality care in a welcoming and modern environment.

“Our new premises provide us with the space and facilities to expand and develop the services we are able to offer, helping us to better meet the needs of our growing community.”
