Streaming giant Netflix has delivered a £200 million boost to the Welsh economy, according to the Welsh Government.
The announcement coincides with the release of HAVOC, Netflix’s latest film and the largest production ever shot entirely in Wales.
Starring Tom Hardy, HAVOC was written and directed by Hirwaun-born Gareth Evans.
Evans gained international acclaim after relocating to Indonesia and creating a series of celebrated martial arts action films, including Merantau, The Raid, and The Raid 2.
Described on IMDb as a conspiracy thriller, the film’s synopsis reads: “After a drug deal gone wrong, a bruised detective must fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, unravelling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Welsh Government highlighted the film’s economic impact:
“Wales powers £200m Netflix economic boom.
“Ahead of the release of HAVOC, the largest feature film ever shot entirely in Wales.
“Netflix have revealed the economic benefits their Welsh-made productions have brought to the UK and more importantly us as a nation.”
