The National Eisteddfod in Wrexham this August will blend tradition with innovation, as Business Wales and Big Ideas Wales launch a week-long initiative aimed at inspiring the next generation of Welsh entrepreneurs.

From 2–9 August, the Welsh Government-backed services will take centre stage at stands 629–630, offering a programme packed with interactive workshops, expert panels, and competitions designed to engage aspiring business leaders. Each day will explore a different theme, ranging from digital innovation to youth enterprise — all while highlighting the integral role of the Welsh language in business.

The initiative aims to make entrepreneurship accessible and exciting, with opportunities for festival attendees to meet successful founders and Big Ideas Wales Role Models, gain real-world advice, and share ideas. Among the featured guests is Shoned Owen, who evolved her mobile spray tan business into an award-winning product line, a homegrown success story showcasing the potential of local entrepreneurship.

“Workshops and panel sessions at the Eisteddfod are a chance for young people to learn directly from those who’ve turned their ideas into thriving ventures,” said a spokesperson from Big Ideas Wales.

A key event in the schedule is the “Tea & Panel” session on Sunday 3 August, which will explore how the Welsh language can be a driver of growth for modern businesses. Speakers include Angharad Gwyn, founder of Adra; Megan Llŷn, founder of Amdanat; and Maiwenn Berry, Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam.

On Monday 4 August, attention turns to the future of tech in business. Digital Advisers Liam Kurmos and Siôn Huws will lead a session on the use of AI, supported by an interactive VR experience designed to bring emerging technologies to life.

Midweek, the focus shifts to creative thinking, with Awen Ashworth from Inspire by Sbarduno hosting a hands-on science session on Wednesday 6 August to ignite entrepreneurial curiosity among younger audiences.

One of the standout features of the week is the Business Idea Competition, open to anyone with a concept they’re keen to develop. Entrants can pitch throughout the festival, with the winner announced during the Crowning Ceremony on the final day.

In a lighter yet imaginative twist, Thursday’s programme will feature a special interview with “Gareth the Orangutan,” delivering an entertaining and offbeat take on what it means to launch a business in modern Wales.

By blending inspiration, education, and innovation, Business Wales and Big Ideas Wales hope to leave a lasting impression on this year’s Eisteddfod, not just celebrating Welsh culture, but actively shaping the country’s economic future.
