Leading UK accountancy and advisory firm Menzies LLP has confirmed a merger with Haines Watts Wales (HWW), strengthening its footprint in south Wales and significantly expanding its service offering in the country.
Previously part of a top 15 UK accountancy network, HWW brings to the table a strong local reputation and an experienced team of 20, including two new partners. The merger will see the Cardiff office of Menzies grow to over 40 staff, with a combined fee income of £4 million.
Crucially, the move sees HWW join the HLB International network, the 8th largest global network of accounting firms, enhancing its international reach and resources.
The deal significantly bolsters Menzies’ presence in Wales, expanding its capabilities beyond Business Recovery & Advisory to include Audit, Accounts and Tax services, aligning with its broader strategy to double its turnover to £85 million this financial year—a figure that represents 100% growth over the past five years.
John Cullen, Partner at Menzies LLP, said: “The merger with Haines Watts Wales is a key strategic step as we strengthen our full-service capabilities in a market that has always been a priority for us. South Wales offers significant opportunity, and this merger underlines our long-term commitment to the region. Together, we will offer clients deeper expertise, broader services, and greater local insight.”
HWW has long served a diverse client base in Wales, including corporates, SMEs, not-for-profits and entrepreneurs. Both firms share a client-centric ethos and deep understanding of the Welsh business landscape, values that have made the transition a natural fit.
Clive Edwards, Partner at HWW, commented: “We wanted a partner who would allow us to continue playing an active role in our clients’ success and support the careers of our talented staff. Menzies provides the scale and culture we were looking for, and we’re excited by the growth opportunities this brings to our clients and colleagues.”
Vicky Carter, Partner at HWW, added: “Cultural alignment was key for us. Menzies shares our focus on personalised service and local expertise, backed by the strength of a national and international network. This partnership allows us to enhance what we offer, not only to clients but also to our teams, who now have broader scope to collaborate and grow.”
The merger is expected to create new job opportunities in Cardiff and across South Wales, as Menzies looks to scale further and invest in talent and technology to meet increasing client demand in the region.
