The Menai Suspension Bridge has fully reopened to two-way traffic, following the completion of temporary strengthening works designed to tackle issues identified in a number of the bridge’s bolts.

The Welsh Government confirmed that a new 7.5-tonne weight limit will be introduced as engineers have advised that the previous 3-tonne restriction can now be safely removed due to the additional support measures installed.

Weekly inspections of the temporary works will take place every Wednesday at 10am. Traffic management will be in place during these checks, using stop/go controls to ensure safety.

The reopening comes ahead of the busy Menai Bridge Fair, helping ease congestion by allowing travel across both bridges that connect Anglesey with the mainland.

A permanent engineering fix remains in development. Work on Phase 2 of the project is scheduled to progress over the coming weeks, with further updates promised as the programme moves forward.

In a statement, officials thanked residents and road users for their continued patience while essential safety works have been undertaken.
