Staff members from KFC restaurants across the UK took part in a national litter picking campaign and the Cardiff restaurant recorded some unexpected findings.

From bird cages to microwaves, teams of KFC restaurants joined the campaign and uncovered some unusual items.

In Cardiff, Newport Road KFC’s team were joined by Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Michael Michael and local councillors who collected 12 bags of litter from the local area.

The group even found a car wheel hub to add to the list of inappropriately discarded items that were discovered this year.

Over the course of the campaign, KFC team members collected over 200 bags of litter, removing more than 300 bottles and cans as well as a minimum of 250 pieces of takeaway packaging from public spaces.

This activity contributes to KFC’s year-round goal of tackling litter and serving the community outside of their hospitality, including daily litter picks and investment in waste infrastructure in communities across Cardiff.

Ollie Beckett, the restaurant’s General Manager, said: “This was our sixth year taking part in the Great British Spring Clean and the team were really keen to get involved again.

“It’s become a bit of a tradition for us now and it’s always satisfying to see so many bags of litter cleared from the streets after just a few hours of hard work.”

Monica Silic, Chief Marketing Officer, KFC UK & Ireland, said: “No one likes to see litter in their local area and at KFC, we’re no different. With restaurants at the heart of communities across the UK and Ireland, we know we have a responsibility to help tackle it.

“Our role on British high streets goes beyond serving up our famous fried chicken. It’s about being a good neighbour, showing up and helping to keep the areas around us clean.

“Tackling litter isn’t a one-day event for us, it’s a year-round commitment. From the daily litter picks our teams carry out around our restaurants to backing local litter picking groups, we’re focused on playing our part.

“Supporting the Great British Spring Clean is another way we roll up our sleeves alongside local communities and help keep our streets rubbish-free.”
