Award-winning South Wales legal practice JCP Solicitors has announced a strategic merger with Howe & Spender Solicitors, a long-established firm based in Port Talbot, in a move set to bring fresh investment, job opportunities, and expanded legal services to the region.

Effective from August 11, 2025, the merger marks a significant step in JCP Solicitors’ ongoing growth strategy across South Wales, adding a Port Talbot base to its existing offices in Swansea, Cardiff, Carmarthen, Caerphilly, Cowbridge, and Haverfordwest.

The deal sees Howe & Spender’s experienced legal team retained at their current offices, with plans to expand the workforce over time to include new trainees, apprentices, and qualified roles.

Hayley Davies, CEO of JCP Solicitors, said the merger reinforces the firm’s commitment to people, clients, and communities.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the Howe & Spender team into the JCP family. Their culture, values and client-first approach align perfectly with our ethos,” Davies said. “This partnership not only enhances our legal offering in Port Talbot but also brings growth and career development opportunities to the town. We believe now is a crucial time for businesses to invest in Port Talbot, a community ripe for regeneration.”

The newly merged office will continue providing conveyancing and lifetime planning services to private clients while broadening its commercial and legal support offering.

Ian Spender, Managing Partner at Howe & Spender, will join JCP Solicitors as a Director within the Lifetime Planning team, while fellow director Souiful Alam had already transitioned earlier this year into JCP’s Commercial Property team.

“After 130 years serving the local community, this merger with a leading Welsh firm represents a positive and progressive step,” said Spender. “It secures continuity for our clients and allows us to offer them an even broader range of expertise.”

The move is expected to boost access to legal services in the Port Talbot area, helping both individuals and businesses tap into a wider pool of legal professionals without needing to leave the region. JCP’s expansion comes at a time when Port Talbot is being eyed for regeneration and diversification, with the legal firm positioning itself to support this evolving business landscape.

The merger officially completes on August 11, 2025.
