ICC Wales Director welcomes ‘Martyn’s Law’ Statutory Guidance

The Venue Director of ICC Wales has welcomed the publication of The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 Statutory Guidance.

Commonly referred to as ‘Martyn’s Law’, Nancy Mollett described the publication as an important step forward in helping the sector understand how to interpret and meet the legislation’s requirements.

She said: “Since 2022, ICC Wales has supported efforts to raise awareness of Martyn’s Law, following early industry research which showed that 55% of respondents were unfamiliar with the proposed legislation, highlighting the need for greater understanding across the sector.

“With mandatory compliance expected in 2027, the guidance provides welcome clarity for venues and event organisers as they begin to prepare in earnest.

“Continued collaboration across the industry will be essential to ensure a consistent and effective approach to implementation.

“The publication of the statutory guidance also follows continued development of the wider regulatory framework, including the opening of consultation on the SIA’s Section 12 guidance, which will set out how the regulator will exercise its functions under Martyn’s Law.

“Recognition is due to Figen Murray OBE, whose tireless campaigning following the loss of her son, Martyn Hett, has been instrumental in bringing Martyn’s Law to this point.

“Her determination has shaped the legislation from its inception and continues to drive progress towards a safer future for events across the UK.”
