ICC Wales has strengthened its leadership team with two senior board appointments as the venue looks to accelerate its international profile in the global business events market.

Mark Rhydderch-Roberts has been promoted from Board Director to Co-Chair, while broadcaster and former Glamorgan cricketer Alan Wilkins has joined as a new Board Director. The appointments come as the South Wales venue continues to position itself as a major player for large-scale national and international events.

Rhydderch-Roberts brings extensive financial and governance experience to his expanded role. Over a 27-year career in investment banking, he held senior positions at leading global institutions. He is also Chair of Glamorgan County Cricket Club, where he oversaw the successful sale of 50% of the club’s stake in the Welsh Fire Hundred franchise to international investors.

His wider public and business roles include recent reappointment to the Welsh Industrial Development Agency Board and membership of the Development Bank of Wales Task and Finish Group.

He will now serve as Co-Chair of ICC Wales alongside existing Chair Christopher Munday.

Reflecting on his expanded remit, Rhydderch-Roberts said: “I was honoured to be appointed to the ICC Wales Board prior to the opening of this exceptional venue in 2017 and I am delighted to step up my involvement as Co-Chair.

“These are exciting times for ICC Wales as the venue continues to establish its reputation as a world-class venue for staging the largest national and international business events, and I look forward to playing an even greater part in developing future business and growth.”

Newly appointed Board Director Alan Wilkins adds another strong Welsh sporting connection to the board. A former Glamorgan seam bowler who later became the club’s President, Wilkins built a major international broadcasting career after injury ended his playing days.

His commentary and presenting work has spanned cricket, rugby, football, golf, tennis, motorsport and the Olympics across broadcasters including BBC, ITV, Eurosport, ESPN and Fox Sports.

Wilkins also has close links to the Celtic Manor Resort, home to ICC Wales, having served as the resort’s inaugural golf club captain.

He said: “I am delighted to join the ICC Wales Board and look forward to working with the other board members to help the venue realise its ambitious business goals. As a proud Welshman, I know what an asset we have in this exceptional convention centre which attracts prestigious events and visitors from all over the world to Wales, bringing huge benefits to the Welsh economy.”

Julie Hammond, Group CEO of ICC Wales and The Celtic Collection, welcomed the appointments and the breadth of expertise they bring to the organisation.

“Mark and Alan bring a wealth of business expertise and experience and I am sure they will excel in their new roles and be a real asset to ICC Wales as we expand our presence in the global business events market.”
