Leading UK law firm Hugh James has partnered with consumer complaints platform Resolver to help businesses claim compensation for wrongly denied or delayed COVID-19 business interruption insurance (BII) pay-outs.
The collaboration aims to assist thousands of businesses—particularly in the hospitality, leisure, and personal care sectors—that may still be entitled to compensation under policies taken out during the pandemic. As Resolver’s official legal partner for COVID-19 BII claims, Hugh James brings legal expertise and a proven track record of success in this complex and high-stakes area.
“Thanks to this collaboration, we’re ensuring businesses access expert legal advice from Hugh James,” said Paul Hancock, CEO of Resolver. “With time rapidly running out, now is the critical moment for businesses to review their eligibility and take immediate action.”
To date, Hugh James has supported hundreds of affected businesses and achieved major legal victories that have shaped the landscape for BII claims in the UK. Notable successes include:
- A High Court victory for a Michelin-starred Welsh restaurant, establishing a key legal precedent for businesses with “at the premises” policy wording.
- A Court of Appeal ruling in favour of Why Not Bar & Lounge Ltd, which strengthened the rights of policyholders across the country.
A £7.5 million arbitration award for more than 300 hair and beauty salons under the ‘Salon Gold’ policy, delivering long-awaited compensation to previously rejected claimants.
Erich Kurtz, Partner at Hugh James, emphasised the urgency for businesses to act: “Thousands of businesses wrongly rejected or delayed in their COVID-19 insurance claims may still have valid cases.
“Given the March 2026 limitation deadline, businesses must act now to ensure they don’t miss their chance to secure the compensation they’re entitled to. We are determined to deliver justice and results.”
