Darts superstar Gerwyn Price has admitted that checking up on his side business does affect him when he’s on the oche — but says he “loves it” and that it helps take his mind off throwing arrows.

The Iceman opened a fish and chip shop, fittingly called Chippy 501, in February 2024.

Based in his hometown of Markham, Blackwood, it has proved a huge hit with locals and darts fans alike.

Speaking to our sister outlet, Sportin Wales, ahead of his Premier League of Darts play-off bout against Luke Littler, Price said it was a good opportunity for him and a “simple decision”.

He said:
“I had a building in my village that I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with, and the fish and chip shop that was in the village sort of went downhill a little bit — it was rarely open and the food quality was dropping.

“I thought there was a demand to have another one there that could offer better products. It was a simple decision in the end.

“I’m always checking up on the shop on my phone. Yeah, it can affect me on the oche. I’m eating fish and chips all the time. I even set up a 10 per cent discount for myself!

“It’s literally right next door to the house. When I’m sat at home and bored, I’ll just go in and get cooking to help out. I just love it in there. It’s good to take my mind off everything else as well.”

Price lost his play-off semi-final to reigning world champion Luke Littler.
