The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has completed a £3 million extension of its headquarters in Hensol, creating new high-performance facilities for Cymru’s national football teams and additional office space for staff.
The 18-month project has expanded both training and administrative areas at the site, where the FAW has been permanently based since 2020. The development was partly funded by the Welsh Government and places a strong emphasis on sustainability, with solar panels, an advanced energy management system, recycled office furniture, and a new garden area to support local wildlife.
On the pitch, Cymru’s national squads will benefit from an enlarged gym and activation area, additional space for analysis and sports science work, and a new “boots on” zone. Coaches’ changing rooms have also been added alongside existing medical facilities.
Off the pitch, players and staff will have access to a purpose-built lecture theatre for team meetings and media sessions. Equipped with advanced audio and video systems, the new space is designed to host tactical briefings and press conferences, welcoming both the squad and international media ahead of matches. The room has been named Wynnstay 1876, a nod to the FAW’s history and the year of its founding.
Administrative staff will also see the benefits of the expansion, with more office space and additional meeting rooms designed to improve collaboration across departments.
FAW Chief Executive Noel Mooney said the project underlined the organisation’s commitment to investing in the future of Welsh football.
He said: “We’re very excited to open the new wing at the Hensol Headquarters, further investing into the Cymru National Teams and the wider Association. It’s vitally important that our National Teams and staff have the best possible facilities to enable us to reach our full potential, both nationally and on the world stage.”
The facilities will be used for the first time during the men’s September international window, when Craig Bellamy’s side faces Kazakhstan and Canada.
