A Swansea charity store is inviting shoppers to step into the spotlight and showcase their style as part of Sustainable Fashion Week this October.

The Salvation Army’s Gorseinon donation centre will host a free fashion show on Thursday 2nd October at 6pm, where customers can model second-hand outfits costing £10 or less. The event aims to highlight how sustainable shopping can be stylish, affordable, and fun.

Gareth Carnegie, Gorseinon donation centre manager, said: “The fashion show will celebrate style for under £10, and show how second-hand can be fashionable. Everyone is welcome to take part in the catwalk and style a look. We are looking for fifteen customers to model their chosen outfit on the catwalk and those that get involved can keep it! They also have the chance to win a prize for best style and look.”

The evening will include refreshments, late-night shopping, and the chance to win one of two £50 Charity Shop Gift Cards.

The Gorseinon fashion show marks the start of three days of sustainable shopping events at the centre. On Friday 3rd October, the store will host a Repair Café, where visitors can learn to fix buttons, mend holes, and extend the life of their favourite clothes. The week rounds off on Saturday 4th October with a Kilo Sale, offering customers the chance to buy clothes by weight.

Carnegie added: “Our message is ‘fix it, don’t ditch it’ so please come along to Repair Café for a fun day. And if you can’t make that, we will have lots of bargains on Saturday at our Kilo Sale, so grab your tote bag and get thrifting!”

The Gorseinon centre is operated by Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL), which runs more than 260 charity shops across the UK. During Sustainable Fashion Week, stores nationwide will encourage shoppers to take the Charity Shop Challenge and curate a full outfit for £10 or less.

Nicole Morarescu, Environment and Sustainability Coordinator at SATCoL, said: “Creating runway-worthy and head-turning outfits doesn’t have to be expensive. Sustainable Fashion Week is all about celebrating second-hand fashion and we wanted to show existing and new customers how to create incredible outfits that would look good on the runaways of London, Paris and New York, but with a budget of £10 of less!”

SATCoL’s Sustainable Fashion Week events run from 29th September to 5th October, supporting the growing movement towards sustainable and circular fashion.
