The Commercial Director of Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid has been recognised for her work supporting women in business after receiving an award at a ceremony held at the Senedd.

Penny Lock picked up the Allyship Award at the Women’s Academy Wales Awards, which celebrates women who are driving positive change across their communities and professional sectors.

Lock has spent more than 30 years championing women in business, inclusion and gender equality in Wales.

Alongside her current role with the chamber, she previously held a leadership position at Chwarae Teg, the gender equality charity, where she worked to promote women’s empowerment in the Welsh economy.

The Allyship Award, sponsored by Apoyo Courses, recognises women who use their influence and platform to support others and advocate for greater inclusion.

Judges praised Lock’s contribution to the chamber and its members, with her nominee saying that “her allyship is not performative; it is embedded in her work ethic, her values and her daily interactions.”

Reacting to the award, Lock said: “I am very humbled and grateful to have received this award. I love what I do, I love working with Welsh businesses and love championing entrepreneurial women. Therefore, to be recognised in this way is really flattering. Thanks so much to the Women’s Academy Wales and Chambers Wales for their support.”

Gus Williams, CEO of Chambers Wales, said: “We are so proud of Penny – her work, her enthusiasm and her advocacy for our members and the Welsh economy is evident to everyone that meets her.

“Penny exemplifies the values of allyship through her commitment, integrity, and tireless work ethic which leaves a lasting impact on our organisation and the businesses we represent. We are so pleased that she has been recognised in this way, as no one deserves is more than her.”
