Chambers Wales Chief Executive Gus Williams has been appointed to the board of the Welsh Government’s Wales Industrial Development Board (WIDAB), joining as one of five new members set to serve three-year terms.
Williams, who also leads Bevan Buckland, the largest independent accountancy and auditing firm in Wales, will take up the advisory and scrutiny role as the board continues to support Welsh Government economic development priorities.
WIDAB members provide advice to the Cabinet Secretary for Economy on the challenges facing Welsh businesses and have a statutory role in scrutinising projects seeking financial backing from the Economy Futures Fund.
Williams said: “I am very proud to have been appointed to WIDAB. In my role as CEO of the Chambers Wales I speak to businesses small and large about the challenges they are facing every day.
“While in my role heading up Bevan Buckland, I see first-hand the challenges and issues that many Welsh SMEs have to overcome, so this is a great opportunity for me to advocate on behalf of our members and clients and the wider business community.
“Through my work with WIDAB my mission will continue, to support Welsh business to succeed, to help the Welsh economy grow, and for Wales to be recognised as a great place to live and work, and to start or run a business.”
“I am looking forward to putting my experience and insight to good use by working closely with my fellow board members, Welsh Government, and the business community over the next three years.”
WIDAB was originally established under the Welsh Development Agency Act 1975 and continues to operate as part of the Welsh Government’s economic development structure.
Its work aligns with the Economic Action Plan, with a focus on investment, regional growth, and long-term business support.
Board members are appointed in a personal capacity and selected in line with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
