CCTV boss in bowel cancer battle records landmark anniversary business growth

Active CCTV, a Mochdre-based security company, is celebrating a landmark anniversary marked by new clients, increased turnover, and ambitious plans for nationwide growth.
Founded in 2000 by Adrian Standerwick, the company has come a long way since its humble beginnings. Adrian, who admits he “couldn’t even wire a plug” when he started, has grown the business into a leading provider of cutting-edge security systems for high-profile clients. These include major brands like McDonald’s, Montgomery Water, Brother, PetPlace, Henllan Bakery, Bourne Leisure, and Culina Group.
Despite the company’s success, the past year has been particularly challenging for Adrian, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy for bowel cancer. This follows the tragic loss of his 25-year-old son, Sam, in 2016. Nevertheless, Adrian remains determined, driven by his passion for the business and dedication to his customers.
“It has been a tough time, but I have an amazing family and my son Matt, who leads on the installation side of the business, has been incredible in stepping up to help me,” said Adrian. “Andy, who has been with the company for nearly two years, has taken over much of the day-to-day running, which has been a huge help and allowed me to focus on recovery.”
Active CCTV’s growth has been impressive, with a 400% increase in turnover over the past four years. The company’s ability to secure major contracts, particularly in retail and self-storage, has driven this upward trend. Adrian noted that self-storage now accounts for around 60% of their workload, with projects spanning from Scotland to England.
“Complex installations have always been our forte, which has raised our profile. Our tight-knit team’s talent and experience enable us to handle major projects efficiently, keeping costs low and quality high—a key advantage for us,” said Adrian.
Adrian’s innovative approach has always set Active CCTV apart. The company was the first in North Wales to introduce PC-based security systems, a technology that many initially doubted. Over the years, the firm has continued to embrace new developments, including advanced CCTV cameras that provide clear, full-color images around the clock.
Reflecting on the journey, Adrian emphasized the importance of consistency and strong client relationships. “Consistency and building strong business relationships have been key, both in the way we work with clients and in our commitment to innovation,” he said. “We are proud to stay ahead of the curve and will continue to do so for many years to come.”
Active CCTV’s commitment to quality and customer service has not gone unnoticed. The company was recently recognized by the local Chamber of Commerce as a finalist in the 2024 Business Growth Award, a significant achievement amid strong competition.
Looking ahead, Adrian remains optimistic about the future. “We are busier than ever, which is fantastic. I am a positive person and focused on getting better. We have big plans to expand further and continue delivering top-quality security solutions nationwide.”
With continued support from his family and team, Adrian is determined to keep Active CCTV at the forefront of the industry, proving once again that resilience and passion can overcome even the toughest challenges.
