Cardiff Farmers Markets named finalists in 2025 BOOM Organic Awards

Cardiff Farmers Markets have been announced as finalists in the prestigious 2025 BOOM (Best of Organic Market) Awards, the UK’s only dedicated organic awards. The accolade places the Welsh capital’s markets among the country’s top champions of sustainable and organic food.
Founded with the launch of Riverside Market in 1998, Cardiff Farmers Markets have grown into some of the UK’s most prominent local food markets, with weekly events now taking place in Roath on Saturdays and Rhiwbina on Fridays. Their nomination highlights their continued success in promoting organic produce and fostering a resilient local food system.
The BOOM Awards, run by Soil Association Certification in partnership with headline sponsor Ocado, celebrate excellence in the organic sector. Finalists are selected through a rigorous judging process involving a panel of food and farming experts.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be named a finalist,” said Carol Adams, General Manager of Cardiff Farmers Markets. “This reflects the dedication of our local growers, market team, and partners working together to make organic food more accessible for people across Cardiff.”
Cardiff Farmers Markets’ shortlisting follows a year of innovation and community-focused initiatives. In collaboration with Food Cardiff, local organic growers, and the Bridging the Gap scheme led by food charity Sustain, the organisation launched The Planet Card—a pre-paid card worth up to £11 per week. The scheme enables users to purchase organic fruit and vegetables at the Roath and Riverside markets without additional cost, aiming to make healthy, sustainable food available to more people.
The initiative is supported by Cardiff University, which is conducting research to assess the impact of the scheme and support potential policy reform.
Georgia Phillips, Commercial and Marketing Director at Soil Association Certification, commented: “Demand is growing for organic as more people are looking for products that are better for them and the environment, so we are delighted to see Cardiff Farmers Markets named as a finalist.”
The recognition comes at a high point for the UK’s organic sector, which has seen 7.3% year-on-year growth in 2024. According to the 2025 Organic Market Report, total organic sales reached £3.7 billion, double the market’s size a decade ago.
As Cardiff Farmers Markets vie for top honours at the BOOM Awards, their nomination underscores the growing importance of sustainable, community-led food initiatives in the UK’s organic movement.
