Housebuilder Bellway Wales has submitted a full planning application to deliver 120 new homes on land south of the A48 at Craig Y Parcau in Bridgend.

The proposals would see the redevelopment of a 17-acre site currently occupied by disused and derelict former boys’ home buildings, which would be demolished to make way for a new residential scheme.

Under the plans, 96 of the homes would be three, four and five-bedroom houses for private sale, alongside 24 affordable homes.

The affordable element would include a mix of one-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses, contributing to local affordable housing provision.

Bellway Wales has also outlined a range of environmental and community features within the scheme.

Many of the existing trees on the site would be retained, along with areas of ancient woodland that run through the land.

The developer says new habitats would be created to support wildlife, including the installation of bat and bird boxes within retained trees and new buildings.

Hibernacula, or log piles, would also be provided within preserved areas of woodland and grassland to support biodiversity.

In addition to housing and green infrastructure, the plans include a children’s play area intended for use by residents of the new development as well as the wider local community.

Daniel Shone, Head of Sales for Bellway Wales, said: “We have carefully designed these proposals for the land at Craig Y Parcau to meet the critical demand for high-quality housing in Bridgend, with a range of home types and sizes to reflect local need.

“The plans incorporate new green spaces for residents, biodiversity enhancements, and sustainable drainage features to promote community wellbeing and long-term environmental sustainability.

“The site benefits from a highly accessible and well-connected location, close to the A48 and within easy reach of Bridgend town centre, and new footpath and cycle links will add to the sustainability of the project.

“Beyond providing new homes for the local area, the project will also have wider benefits by creating jobs during the construction phase and supporting the local economy. We look forward to moving forward with the project subject to planning permission.”
