Barcud to put tenants at the heart of new Tenant & Community Involvement Strategy

Barcud is developing a new Tenant and Community Involvement Strategy aimed at placing residents at the centre of decision-making.

The mid and west Wales-based group, comprising Barcud Housing Association, Care and Repair in Powys, The Care Society and EOM, is seeking to build on existing engagement practices by creating a more structured and consistent approach to tenant involvement across its operations.

The strategy is being shaped following a series of workshops involving tenants, board members and staff, held in Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Newtown, as well as online.

The sessions were designed to assess how involved tenants currently feel, identify barriers to participation and gather feedback to inform the final framework.

For housing associations, strengthening tenant engagement has become a growing priority, particularly as regulators and stakeholders place greater emphasis on transparency, service quality and resident voice.

The Strategy, it is hoped, will deliver a clear and accessible definition of tenant involvement which will create a consistent approach in the future.

Its aim empower tenants, strengthen communities, and ensure that involvement is meaningful, inclusive and impactful as well as reflecting Barcud’s commitment to working in partnership with tenants to shape services, improve outcomes, and build a stronger, more connected organisation.
