The tournament will be the largest sporting event ever jointly hosted by the UK and Ireland and the first international men’s football championship to be held across the nations since UEFA EURO ’96. In total, six matches will take place in Cardiff, including group stage fixtures, a last 16 tie, and a quarter-final, with the final set for Wembley Stadium in London. The UK Government is investing up to £557 million to support the delivery of UEFA EURO 2028. An updated independent assessment predicts the tournament will generate £3.2 billion in socio-economic benefits across the UK, driving job creation, boosting regional growth, and attracting a major influx of international visitors.   Governments and football partners across the UK and Ireland have also committed around £45 million to a social impact fund for the tournament, with the UK Government contributing £23 million. This investment will back community programmes focused on inclusion, wellbeing and togetherness, ensuring the event leaves a meaningful legacy beyond football. Leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Huw Thomas, said: “Hosting the opening match of UEFA EURO 2028 is a tremendous honour for Cardiff and a testament to our city’s reputation as a world-class destination for major events. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity that will bring people together, inspire pride, and deliver significant economic and social benefits for our communities. “With less than 1,000 days to go until the tournament begins, we’re working closely with UEFA and our city partners to deliver a true celebration of everything people love about the game.”   Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens added: “It is fantastic news that Cardiff will host the opening match of the Euro 2028 championships. Wales is set to benefit from the spotlight and visitor numbers that come with hosting a major event. “I am proud that the UK Government supported the successful bid to bring the Euros here, and I’m looking forward to the wonderful memories that will be made right here in Wales.” To mark the announcement, Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin and England international Tyrone Mings at 10 Downing Street. UK Sports Minister Stephanie Peacock also chaired a meeting with representatives from the Welsh Government, the Irish Government, the Northern Ireland Executive, the Scottish Government, and UEFA to discuss delivery plans and ensure the tournament’s successful rollout across all host nations.   Want more from Businessin Wales? FSB Wales hails Wylfa nuclear announcement as ‘once in a generation’

FSB Wales hails Wylfa nuclear announcement as ‘once in a generation’ FSB Wales hails Wylfa nuclear announcement as ‘once in a generation’ Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Wales has welcomed the UK Government’s decision to build the country’s first small modular reactors (SMRs) at the Wylfa site on Anglesey, describing it as a “once in a generation” boost for jobs, supply chains and regional infrastructure. FSB Wales is the voice of small businesses across Wales, advocating for a better social, political, and economic environment. With a strong grassroots structure, a Members Advisory Council and a dedicated team based throughout Wales, FSB Wales ensures its members’ voices are heard at the heart of decision-making and beyond. The £2.5 billion project, led by publicly owned Great British Energy-Nuclear, will see work start next year with power generation targeted for the mid-2030s. It is expected to create up to 3,000 jobs and power around three million homes.   Welcoming the landmark decision to build the UK’s first SMRs at Wylfa, Head of FSB Wales, Joshua Miles, said: “This multibillion-pound project will create thousands of high-quality jobs and significant supply-chain opportunities across north Wales and further afield. “Small and medium-sized local companies must be at the forefront of procurement planning from day one. By prioritising local firms in this process, Great British Energy-Nuclear can ensure investment stays within our communities, delivering lasting economic benefits for Ynys Môn and the wider Welsh economy for generations to come. “This announcement is a golden opportunity to review and upgrade north Wales’s infrastructure, from roads and rail to broadband, to make the region more attractive for future investment and to unlock its full economic potential.”   FSB Wales is calling for early and meaningful engagement with small businesses. The organisation also urges collaboration with local colleges to deliver targeted training programmes, ensuring Welsh people can access the skilled roles the project will create. The Wylfa development marks the UK’s first deployment of Rolls-Royce-designed SMRs and comes after the site was selected ahead of Oldbury in Gloucestershire. The previous large-scale nuclear plant at Wylfa closed in 2015.   Want more from Businessin Wales? Used van demand accelerates as registrations decline says David Spear Commercials

Used van demand accelerates as registrations decline says David Spear Commercials Used van demand accelerates as registrations decline says David Spear Commercials Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  David Spear Commercials has released new insight on the UK light commercial vehicle (LCV) market, revealing a widening gap between the performance of the new and used van sectors. While demand for quality used vehicles remains exceptionally strong, the latest industry data shows continued decline in new van registrations — a trend compounded by slow electric vehicle (EV) uptake and infrastructure challenges. Despite year-on-year growth in battery electric van (BEV) market share, progress remains significantly below the Government’s mandated target for 2025. According to the company, a faster rollout of charging infrastructure is essential to encouraging more operators to switch from diesel to electric fleets. New Van Registrations Continue to Fall The latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) highlight a sharp slowdown in the new LCV sector: October registrations down 15.1%, totalling 22,896 vans, pickups, and 4x4s Year-to-date registrations down 10.2%, with 264,160 units registered in 2025 This ongoing downturn reflects reduced business confidence, challenging economic conditions, and a notable slowdown in planned fleet renewals. Organisations are increasingly delaying new purchases, reshaping market dynamics and placing growing pressure on the used sector to meet operational needs. Market Impact: Extended Lifecycles and Rising Used Demand Fleet, rental, and commercial operators are now retaining vehicles for 60 months or longer, resulting in older and higher-mileage vans entering the used market. Many require refurbishment and investment before resale, increasing pressure on retailers to maintain quality standards. With supply restrictions and slower new vehicle uptake, reliable used LCVs continue to outperform expectations. Buyers are prioritising availability, condition, and overall value — keeping the used van sector competitive and fast-moving. “Over the past year, we’ve focused on quality used LCVs and maintaining a steady supply of new vehicles, strengthening our market position,” said founder David Spear. “Our strategy was recently recognised with Van Retailer of the Year at the 2025 AutoTrader Awards. The SMMT data highlights the challenges the market faces, but we remain confident in our ability to capitalise on these shifts while continuing to deliver sustainable growth. “At David Spear Commercials, we combine market insight, strategic foresight, and a customer-first approach to help businesses navigate an evolving commercial vehicle landscape.”   Want more from Businessin Wales? Welsh Businesses to get free new tools to boost productivity and staff wellbeing

Welsh Businesses to get free new tools to boost productivity and staff wellbeing Welsh Businesses to get free new tools to boost productivity and staff wellbeing Hannah Edmondson Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  Welsh employers are set to benefit from a new suite of free workplace health tools launched by Public Health Wales, aimed at improving employee wellbeing and strengthening business performance. With sickness absence and staff turnover continuing to place pressure on organisations, the initiative arrives at a crucial time. Developed through the Healthy Working Wales programme and funded by the Welsh Government, the new tools are designed to make workplace wellbeing more accessible for employers of all sizes. Whether a business employs a handful of people or manages a large workforce, the core message remains the same: supporting staff wellbeing is not only good practice, it directly contributes to increased productivity and organisational resilience.   At the centre of the offer is the Employer Survey Tool, essentially a quick and structured health check for employers. By answering a series of questions about current workplace practices, businesses receive personalised feedback and clear recommendations. The tool avoids unnecessary jargon, providing straightforward and practical steps that can be implemented immediately. The programme also introduces a Workplace Adviser Support service, giving employers access to one to one virtual sessions with experts who can help identify high impact improvements tailored to their organisation. This level of support mirrors consultancy style guidance, but without the associated costs. In addition, the Peer Mentoring programme connects employers with other organisations that have already embedded effective wellbeing practices.   This provides a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, gain insights, and learn from real world experience, reducing the need for trial and error. For larger employers, these resources provide a useful way to benchmark or enhance existing wellbeing strategies. For SMEs, particularly those without dedicated HR capacity, the free and accessible nature of the tools offers much needed support and clarity. The Welsh Government has emphasised that when employees feel valued and supported, the benefits are far reaching: increased productivity, improved retention, and stronger overall performance. For business leaders, maintaining a motivated and healthy workforce remains one of the most effective ways to ensure long term stability and growth.   To get started, employers are encouraged to complete the Employer Survey Tool and follow up with a Workplace Adviser session to develop tailored actions. Those interested in wider collaboration can also join the peer mentoring network to share experiences with other leaders across Wales. In a period where many businesses are balancing rising costs, recruitment pressures, and operational demands, these new tools represent a timely and practical opportunity. Free, easy to use, and designed to deliver meaningful impact, they offer Welsh employers a clear pathway to building healthier teams and stronger organisations.   Want more from Businessin Wales? TMPR agency buys own building on ‘growth trajectory’ after Cardiff Business School course

TMPR agency buys own building on ‘growth trajectory’ after Cardiff Business School course TMPR agency buys own building on ‘growth trajectory’ after Cardiff Business School course Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  TMPR, a communications and content agency, has been flourishing after its leader completed a course and developed an ongoing relationship with Cardiff Business School.  Since founding Penarth-based TMPR in 2011, Louise Morgan has achieved year-on-year growth for the B2B agency, building a strong portfolio of construction, engineering, and manufacturing clients, some operating internationally. Since taking a course with Cardiff Business School, Morgan said she’s become a member of an engaged community of business leaders while benefitting from ongoing support from the university. Students benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including the school’s Virtual Executive Teaching Suite which allows up to 96 remote participants to teach, meet and collaborate online. Morgan added that she’d encourage anyone at all levels of business to search for short courses on the Cardiff Business School website and find time for their own professional development.   “It’s no coincidence that since I took the course, we have been on a growth trajectory,” Morgan said. “We’ve bought our own building – it’s a step change. It’s a very different business today than it was before I went on the course.” Morgan began her business intending for it to allow her to go freelance, utilising her years of agency PR experience. In 2017 she took on her first employee, and the business has grown significantly since then. She said her course allowed her to gain a wider perspective on her business and step back from the day to day. “It was stepping out of the business that gave me the thinking time,” she added. “The course made me feel that I wasn’t alone. It was a blend of classroom-based teaching and virtual modules.” Earlier this year, Louise engaged with Cardiff Business School’s integrated work placement programme, taking on a business student for the first time on a five-month paid placement.   “We took the student and worked with the university to scope out what the placement would look like,” Morgan said. “That had a real positive, strong business impact that’s lasted. The wider support network has played a key part in our continued commitment to grow.” She added: “I think anyone who looks at a course at Cardiff Business School and thinks it’s one and done. It’s not. They are really big on engagement, supporting business long-term and the team are just full of joy.”   Linda Hellard, Business Manager for Executive Education at Cardiff Business School, said: “It was brilliant to have Louise with us on one of our short courses. Her energy and insight added so much to the experience. “At Cardiff Business School, we’re proud to support professionals at every stage of their journey. Our short courses are designed to give fresh perspectives on business and management issues, and we can also create bespoke programmes tailored to your organisation. “There’s always something relevant and thought-provoking, delivered by academics working at the forefront of their fields. We’d encourage anyone to explore our website, see what’s on offer, and join our business community.”   Want more from Businessin Wales? Life Online report highlights young people’s digital lives

Life Online report highlights young people’s digital lives Life Online report highlights young people’s digital lives Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  A new report commissioned by Ceredigion County Council has revealed how online life is shaping the experiences, wellbeing, and behaviours of young people across Dyfed-Powys. The Life Online – Young People’s Voices report, delivered by ProMo Cymru and the Youth Work Leadership Lab captures the views of hundreds of young people and youth professionals. It explores how digital platforms like TikTok are influencing identity, relationships, and mental health. “It’s great to see Ceredigion Youth Service deepening its understanding of young people’s online lives and using their voices to shape future services,” said Arielle Tye, Head of Digital for ProMo Cymru. “If we want youth work to stay relevant and effective, we need to be active in digital spaces and design support where young people are”. The findings show that while many young people enjoy positive experiences online, including learning new skills and connecting with others, a significant number also face challenges such as bullying, exposure to harmful content, and unwanted messages.   “It is encouraging to see so many young people describing their time online as creative, fun, and beneficial,” said Councillor Alun Williams, Deputy Leader and Ceredigion Cabinet Member for Through Age and Wellbeing.  “This report reminds us that the internet is where they can connect, learn, and grow. These positives are what we must build on. At the same time, we can’t ignore the very real harms some experience. “This report gives us a balanced understanding, and a clear mandate to design services that amplify the good and address the risks.” Professionals working with young people expressed concern about the impact of online life on behaviour and wellbeing and highlighted a need for better understanding of digital platforms and trends. The project was commissioned as part of the Dyfed-Powys Serious Violence and Organised Crime Partnership, under the Serious Violence Duty. It will inform future service design and early intervention work led by Ceredigion Youth Service.   “The Life Online report gives us a good picture of how young people experience the digital world in our region, both the positives and the challenges,” added Gethin Jones, Corporate Manager for Ceredigion Youth Service. “We are very grateful to the Office of the Police Crime Commissioner, Dyfed Powys Police for funding this important work and we are now building on it through a holistic, youth work–led approach to prevention. “We are eager to continue this work to embed media literacy, to provide mentoring for practitioners on safe social media use and establish a youth-led advisory group to help shape future digital wellbeing initiatives.” The full report is available at: Life Online – Young People’s Voices – ProMo Cymru. 📷 Ceredigion Youth Service Focus Group   Want more from Businessin Wales? Christmas crafters urged to check tax rules by HMRC

Christmas crafters urged to check tax rules by HMRC Christmas crafters urged to check tax rules by HMRC Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  Those looking to earn money from Christmas craft, seasonal market stalls, or other festive items are being urged to check tax rules with HMRC. As the festive season approaches, HMRC’s Help for Hustles campaign is reminding anyone earning extra income from activities like making Christmas decorations, upcycling furniture for seasonal sales, or running market stalls, that they will need to tell HMRC if they earn more than £1,000.   The campaign’s guidance explains the important distinction between simply decluttering homes by selling unwanted personal belongings – which doesn’t usually require reporting to HMRC – and trading activities like making items to sell for profit, which may be taxable. Anyone who earned more than £1,000 from side hustles in the 2024 to 2025 tax year will need to register for Self Assessment as a sole trader, file their return and pay any tax due by 31 January 2026. This £1,000 threshold applies to all trading activities combined – so someone earning £600 from craft sales and £500 from content creation would need to register as their total exceeds £1,000. According to insight commissioned by HMRC and published in 2023, one in 10 people in the UK operate in the hidden economy with 65% of these individuals most likely operating side hustles and largely unaware that they should be registered for tax. “Whether you’re making handmade Christmas decorations, selling upcycled furniture, or running a seasonal market stall, it’s important to understand when your festive side hustle becomes taxable trading,” said Kevin Hubbard, HMRC’s Director of Individuals & Small Business Compliance.   “Nobody wants an unexpected tax bill, so anyone earning more than £1,000 from their side hustle should tell HMRC. Our Help for Hustles campaign provides clear, straightforward guidance to help people get their tax right.” “Markets are an important part of Christmas celebrations and every year, town centres around the country witness thousands of traders enriching the festive atmosphere,” added Graham Wilson OBE, National Association of British Markets’ Deputy Chief Executive. “As the national organisation for market operators, we want to encourage all traders, particularly those who are trading for the first time, to be clear about their obligations for tax arising from their earnings and we welcome the guidance and support provided by HMRC on this important issue.” People can use a free online checker on GOV.UK to find out if they need to tell HMRC about additional income. Guidance is also available on the Help for hustles campaign page, explaining the different types of side hustles, including selling items, providing services and creating content.   Want more from Businessin Wales? FOR Cardiff announces £12,000 worth of grants towards latest community projects FOR Cardiff announces £12,000 worth of grants towards latest community projects Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  By guest writer Max Taylor In the latest round of FOR Cardiff’s City Ambition Fund, four environmental projects are set to receive grants of up to £12,000. The City Ambition Fund is supporting local culture, city environment, and independent businesses. It is delivering on the £1.4 million investment made by the 800+ members in order to create more reasons for visiting the city, focusing on a cleaner, greener and safer environment. Emily Cotterill, associate director at FOR Cardiff, explained: “This year, we invited applications to fund ideas with a specific environmental focus that will make Cardiff an even better place to live, work and visit – and we’re excited to see how the successful projects develop.” The first of four projects receiving funding is The Huggard. The centre for homeless adults in the capital, located on Dumballs Road, is receiving £3,000 towards the development of its exterior. The intention is to create more community engagement and it will have volunteers working on the project.   The environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy is receiving their share of the fund to their “Hedge in a Box” scheme. This provides a subsidised box for businesses to create connected green spaces for wildlife through the city centre. The box’s contents include 30 native hedging plants, a bird feeder, a ladybird tower and other components important for improving urban biodiversity. Repair Cafe Wales will receive funding to support their Fix it Feb campaign launching next February. This campaign is encouraging people to fix broken items themselves rather than replace them. Training sessions will be delivered by the cafe’s team for businesses to understand the sustainability and welfare benefits of adopting the mindset to repair and reuse over replacing. The final project that will receive the £3,000 grant will be ‘A Playful, Green City Centre- Designed by Us’. This project will teach families and children how the city centre can become more playful and welcoming for them through creative workshops which will unite schools, businesses, and community members. Dr. Reem Okasha leads the charge of this project alongside Hussa Al-Ghunaim. The former stated: “We’re fortunate that Cardiff has been recognised by UNICEF as the UK’s first Child Friendly City, and we want to build on this achievement by co-creating design ideas with children that enhance families’ experience in the city centre.” Want more from Businessin Wales? Wales receives major investment following Prime Minister’s trade mission to India Wales receives major investment following Prime Minister’s trade mission to India Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  By guest writer Max Taylor India has backed Wales as a thriving global business destination as Keir Starmer has secured major deals from Indian investors, creating 200 new jobs in the country. The Prime Minister travelled to the nation that ranks fourth in the world’s GDP list of 2025 this week. There he gained major support from world leading investors, collectively investing £1.2 billion into Britain and directly impacting Welsh businesses and economy. The 200 new jobs break down across multiple deals. One of which came from EdSupreme, an Ed-tech company investing £10 million into London and Wales. EdSupreme specialises in employing artificial intelligence into physiotherapy practice and will create 50 jobs in Wales over the next three years. Another company bringing 50 new jobs to Wales by investing £5 million is NeoCeltic Global Ltd, a medical device pioneer delivering cutting-edge solutions in physical recovery and movement. Chandan Jerry, the director of NeoCeltic Global Ltd, offered a statement on the two nations relationship: “As an entrepreneur, I welcome the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the UK and India, which will deepen economic ties and unlock new opportunities for businesses.” Pharmaceutical company Wockhardt is upgrading its current facility in Wrexham by investing £8 million. This will expand their global operation and create 35 new jobs in the process. 15 high-skilled jobs will be created as a result of NMT Engineering and Services investment, who are putting in £5 million for the production of renewable energy, defence, and aerospace components. Jo Stevens, Secretary of State for Wales, spoke on the benefits of this “landmark trade deal”: “Key industries in Wales, such as the renewable energy sector, the creative industries, and food and drink producers will see the benefits and Welsh businesses will also have access to India’s huge procurement market with increased protections so they can confidently export goods and services.” Many investments from the successful trade mission falls under the priority sectors of the UK-India Technology Security Initiative which was launched in July 2024 aiming to strengthen collaboration between the two nations in emerging technologies. Research finds AI powered Google Technology can reduce weekly workload of small businesses by one day per week Research finds AI powered Google Technology can reduce weekly workload of small businesses by one day per week Subscribe to the Businessin Wales daily newsletter for FREE here.  By guest writer Max Taylor Google recently carried out a research project to discover the current challenges Small and Medium Enterprises in Wales are facing, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) the solution to many of the findings. Research revealed in the past year that over half of the country’s SME owners haven’t had time to focus on innovation ideas despite believing it would be key to achieving significant revenue growth. Research agency Public First found that SME productivity can increase to 20% with the use of AI tools such as Gemini and Google Workspace. This essentially saves SME’s one day of work out of the week, allowing owners time to focus on their innovation and build growth within the business. To encourage owners to embrace this development, Google is partnering with the Department for Business and Trade and launching a nationwide tour with a stop in Cardiff on the 13th November. This an opportunity for Welsh business owners to upskill themselves regarding AI and increase business performance. Peter Kyle, Secretary of State for Business and Trade, issued a statement on the Google partnership:“AI is transforming the way we work, and this partnership with Google will give small businesses vital hands-on experience of how to capitalise on the many benefits of AI to innovate, grow, and compete on the global stage. “AI transformation is a crucial part of our mission to kickstart economic growth, which is why our Plan for Small Businesses is supporting SMEs across the UK to adopt new digital technologies.” Want more from Businessin Wales?
