ACCA Cymru/Wales sets out four priorities ahead of Senedd Election

ACCA Cymru/Wales has outlined four key policy priorities for the next Welsh Government ahead of the 2026 Senedd election, urging political parties to focus on skills, business growth, public finances and the transition to net zero.

The professional accountancy body, which represents more than 6,400 members and students across Wales, published its pre-election prospectus on today (30 March), setting out what it describes as practical steps to underpin long-term economic prosperity.

With the 2026 Senedd election scheduled for 7 May, the organisation is calling on the incoming administration to commit to strengthening the country’s economic and financial foundations.

The prospectus identifies four priority areas. These include building a “world-class” skills and careers system through expanded higher-level apprenticeships and greater employer input into training, particularly in digital and green sectors.

It also calls for improved infrastructure and connectivity to support sustainable business growth, alongside stronger collaboration between government and industry.

Further recommendations focus on enhancing public finances and productivity, including the introduction of multi-year budgets, a simpler tax environment and reform of the business rates system.

The fourth priority centres on enabling a “practical and just” transition to net zero, with targeted support for small businesses and improved climate reporting across public bodies.
